MEETING MINUTES: Thank you to all who attended our Parent Meeting on July 11. We appreciate the great turnout and encourage everyone who wasn’t able to attend to review these Meeting Minutes for important information as we approach our first matches of the season.
For our new parents, one of our parents (and current Treasurer) Randy Kiser has put together this Water Polo 101 document that we think you will find helpful as you begin to learn more about the game.
TEAM PARTY: Hopefully everyone has responded to the Evite for our Season Opener Party which takes place Saturday, Aug. 4 at 6:30. If not, please RSVP right away so we know how many to plan for.
URGENT — SPORTS PHYSICALS NEEDED: Remember, if we do not have a current sports physical (valid through the season end in October) on file for your athlete, they will not be allowed to play in the first matches of the season on August 11. Please turn in those forms to the parent volunteers at practice asap.
WATER POLO SUITS: If your athlete does not have a water polo suit, please make sure to order one in time to arrive before the first games. Specially designed water polo suits are recommended for all scrimmages and games. These suits are designed to provide the appropriate coverage and freedom of movement required by this rigorous sport, while minimizing the opponent’s ability to grab and manipulate players in the water.
Water polo suits are available from a variety of online sources, including:
Girls: For girls, we recommend the black TURBO Women’s Comfort Water Polo Suit, the TURBO Basic Dual Layer Women’s Water Polo Suit, or the Nike 93210 High Neck Tank water polo suit. However, any solid black water polo suit is acceptable. NOTE: For safety reasons, all girls need to wear a swim cap underneath their water polo caps.
Boys: For boys, the Turbo Basic Water Polo Suit (worn by our boys last year) or TURBO Dual Layer Water Polo Suit in black are good water polo suit options.
The guidance from the Georgia High School Water Polo Association on suit fit and sizing can be found in the GHSWPA Policies document which can be accessed here: http://www.gapolo.com/rules/.
